Quantum3D Announces the Release of Native CDB Compatibility for its new Next Generation MANTIS Image Generation Software

The Power of MANTIS Comes to Existing CDB-based Simulators with MANTIS NG

Milpitas, CA – May 22, 2018 – Quantum3D, Inc., a leading provider of training and simulation solutions for government and commercial applications, is excited to announce support for Common Database (CDB) format terrains running natively on the MANTIS® suite of real-time Image Generation software.  This CDB compatibility is now available on the next generation version of MANTIS, MANTIS 3.4.0.

Not only does MANTIS NG have native CDB support, but it also includes a new StaticModels plugin that provides a mechanism to efficiently populate the terrain with a set of modeled features.  For example, this allows new tall constructions (such as buildings, wind-turbines, radio towers) to be added to the terrain without having to re-generate the complete terrain, allowing the terrain to be kept up to date with the real world.  MANTIS NG also includes watercraft capability added to its Autonomous Traffic plug-in.

With native CDB support, users now have the freedom and flexibility to upgrade to a fully COTS compliant Image Generator without the cost and burden of porting the current CDB visual database. The CDB capability will be sold as an option to MANTIS.

“With the addition of CDB, MANTIS remains the most capable and flexible Image Generation Software available today,” said Clayton Conrad, President and CEO, Quantum3D. “Simulation platforms using CDB visual environments will use the power and capabilities of MANTIS NG without any need for preprocessing or manual conversion of the visual database. Our users can now upgrade to a modern visual platform as part of our Simulator Modernization Program without the cost of rebuilding their visual database.”

MANTIS NG is Quantum3D’s image generation software for real-time visual simulation.  Based on modern GPU shader programming and with its vast array of plug-ins for special effects, MANTIS NG is well suited to exploit the new levels of hardware power available on commercial PC hardware platforms. And when packaged with Quantum3D’s GeoScapeSE® World-Wide Database and the FACETS® real-time 3D model library, MANTIS NG provides an out-of-the-box solution that’s ready to fly to thousands of airports, cities, and other destinations around the globe. MANTIS NG is available as a software application on both Windows and Linux, is included on Quantum3D’s Independence® IDX 8000 and IDX 80 turnkey Image Generators and is also available for free trial download at www.quantum3d.com/mantis/

CDB is an open standard for scene content and is now an official standard adopted by the Open Geospatial Consortium, www.opengeospatial.org/standards/cdb. Use of CDB provides many advantages, including: interoperability between various components of a complete simulator, and across multiple simulators; reduced, development, update and configuration management times; enhanced reusability; and reduced obsolescence.
